What is the current policy of Uzbekistan?
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh! I would like to learn about the current policy of Uzbekistan. Shavkat Mirziyoyev is opening a wide gate to Islam, thus earning trust of the people. In this connection I have a question: What does Hizb ut-Tahrir think about it? In other words, why did Mirziyoyev go against the regime established by Karimov?
Answer: Mirziyoyev is not fighting against the Karimov regime! It would be more accurate to say that by reforming the regime, he is rehabilitating revolutionary critical situation in the country because major players of the Karimov regime are still in their positions and still have significant influence on the country’s policy. In addition, Mirziyoyev himself is one of the “executives” of the regime. Under the influence and by agreement of the international politics, Karimov was moved from the political stage. Karimov was not able to reform the regime because he was coward and he became capricious in his old age. Moreover, by starting reforms, Karimov would start a fight against himself. Meanwhile, the regime reached heights in its bloodiness and cruelty and became in a dead end and needed reforms. Therefore, it was necessary to remove Karimov from the politics up to possible neutralization of him. Mirziyoyev showed Karimov as a genius, and insignificantly modified its controlling mechanism based on cruelty. Conducting fake reforms in the eyes of the people, Mirziyoyev put all committed crimes on the lower (executive) command echelon. Displaying hypocrisy in front of the people and Muslims full of hatred against security ministries that oppress them, he removed many managers from these ministries, and even punished some of them. Moreover, he granted amnesty to prisoners convicted for long terms for political and religious crimes. As the regime could not break them and failed to pervert them from their ideology. The fact that they were in prisons already was a great propaganda. They became heroes in the eyes of the Ummah, like the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him). They were a big problem for Karimov – he did not know what to do with them and could not dare to set them free. Mirziyoyev transferred the reins of administration of the Islam situation in the country into the hands of “moderate” ulema, and at the same time, he started to free religious prisoners. He also issued a decree that a specially appointed commission will consider liberation of Muslim prisoners. By doing this, Mirziyoyev decided to raise reputation of the palace ulema among the Islam community. In sum, we would like to say that Mirziyoyev did not destroy and dethrone the Karimov regime. He only veiled it renaming it as “Mirziyoyev regime”. The regime is still continuing its fight
