Atambaev might lose immunity
Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentarians accuse ex-president Atambaev of concluding an agreement that caused major damage to the state, Kursiv.kz reports. In particular, Ishak Masaliev, parliamentarian from Onuguu-Progress opposition faction, and Kurmankul Zulushev, parliamentarian from Respublika-Ata Jurt pro-government faction, submitted public hearing of amendment to the Law On guarantees of presidential activity. “After public hearing, initial version of suggested amendments to the law, envisaging restriction of full immunity of the ex-president of the state, was completed and now it suggests to exclude Article 12 that guarantees full immunity to the former president”, said the parliament’s press office representative. The web site of Kyrgyzstan’s parliament says that in future, the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan will lose immunity and he might be brought to appropriate responsibility for activities or inactivity during execution of presidential powers. During the discussion, parliamentarians stated that the former president Almazbek Atambaev, who left elected office in November 2017, bears responsibility for concluding a disadvantageous multi-million agreement with Chinese TBEA on modernization of the thermal power plant for credit funds of China’s Eximbank in 2013.
