Iran stated the term of leaving Syria
Iranian authorities are ready to reduce its presence in Syria or completely leave it if the situation stabilizes and counter terrorism fight ends, stated Behram Kasimi, official representative of Iran’s foreign ministry. “As long as the Syrian government wants it, we will stay in this country. Besides request of the Syrian government, our most important task was the counter terrorism fight. As soon as we feel that Syria is close to relative stability, and counter terrorism fight ends and significant success is achieved, we can reduce consultative presence in Syria or completely leave the country”, Kasimi told Pana news agency. In mid July, Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor of the Supreme Leader for foreign affairs, stated that Iran would keep its presence in Syria, otherwise terrorists would resume their activities. He noted that the Iranian troops are in Syria upon request of official Damask, and stated that demands of other countries including the USA to leave Syria are inappropriate. Moreover, according to Velayati, Iran’s presence in Syria has no connection with “Israel”.
