Ben Hodges: Russia only understands force

NATO needs to demonstrate unity in the confrontation with Russia, which “only understands force”, the former commander of the US army in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges said. “We all must be cautious when we sign any agreement with Russia. Russia is a great country with a great history and people, but they respect only strength. If our Alliance does not demonstrate the unity and determination, we will only encourage her aggression”, Hodges told about in an interview to the Polish TV channel TVN24. Hodges noted that Russia wants to “undermine the principles” of the EU and NATO, and to show that the Western military block is unable to protect its allies in Europe. “This means that we are dealing with a hybrid war, disinformation, nuclear threat and cyberterrorism attacks,” − said Hodges. The General added that Russia considers its responsibility to protect its citizens abroad, which, in his opinion, can serve as the reason for rapid invasion of the Baltic countries or Poland. “How can we prevent Russia’s such a big mistake? The Alliance is trying to increase our response speed. Poland’s modernization efforts will increase our capacity <…> “We must show Russia that we can deploy troops as quick as they do. Afterwards we can have the same relations as we had during the Cold War”, the General stated.

Turkiston: The United States shows Russia as an aggressor threatening Europe in order to increase the influence of NATO in the region. On the other side, Russia, taking advantage of the situation, started its information campaign of warning the Russian people about potential threat from the West. Putin’s regime, in order to distract the people’s attention from sequences of forthcoming economic crisis in the country, wants to change the situation into the mode of new cold war by pumping out the western hysteria in the country. By doing this, the regime will be able to hold the power for a while
